According to National Science Olympiad Rules, every Science Olympiad team may have a maximum of 15 members, and up to seven of them can be seniors. Currently, there are nine permanent members of the Varsity team with six vacant positions, three of which can be for a senior. There are 15 vacant positions on the Junior Varsity Team this year.
Please realize this is a highly competitive environment. Fayetteville-Manlius students bring an extraordinary amount of experience, ambition, and excellence, making it hard to narrow down to 15 members. As coaches, we are seeking the strongest candidates who can fulfill team needs for the 2017-2018 season. We are looking for students who can commit time after school, on evenings, and weekends to prepare for competitions. Students must also be available for all invitational and competitive meets.
In conclusion, please be reminded of the competitive nature of this team. There are at least 30 students trying out for only six vacant Varsity and 15 vacant Junior Varsity positions. Ultimately, this means there will be some candidates who will not make either team.
On a positive note, students who do not make either team still have the option of helping out at our Invitational and the Regional and State Tournaments, as well as at several B division competitions. This can garner them experience in the Science Olympiad environment, helps their community, and can earn them Science Honor Society credits if they need any.
